Swag vs. Class Revisited

Good day world! I know I’ve been absent for the past couple of months and I’m truly sorry. There’s been a lot going on in my world and I allowed this blog, which has become my last bastion for unfiltered expression, to fall by the wayside. I know I keep saying I’ll do better, but its so hard to keep myself committed to that promise. But I will make sure to put forth more effort to check in from time to time, that I can guarantee.

As you can see by the title of today’s entry, I’m revisiting one my favorite entries in this blog. If you haven’t read the original, please feel free to do so.

Its not required to fully understand what I’m gonna be saying today, but it might help.

The last time I spoke on this subject, I gave some examples of what swag and class are in my eyes. I still stand by those examples. Lil’ Wayne is the perfect example of somebody that has swag. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s definitely not a good thing either. The way that Dwayne Michael Carter dresses reminds me of MC Hammer and Kris Kross, it shouldn’t be copied by people in their everyday lives. In all honesty, I don’t think it should be copied at all, unless you’ve been diagnosed with some sort of severe mental illness. And even then, that would hardly excuse you. But that’s neither here nor there.

I don’t say these things to ruffle anybody’s feathers (even though its a foregone conclusion that it will happen). I’m just expressing the thoughts in my head. Like I said last time, I was raised household that was dominated by fashion. I learned how to tie a tie at an early age. I developed my own sense of style while most boys my age were still predominately concerned with playing outside. So now, because of my upbringing, I’m hyper aware and critical of anything fashion related.

The biggest thing I want to get across is that swag and class are NOT the same thing and they CAN’T be had at the same damn time. They’re at opposite ends of the style spectrum. Swag is like the immature little brother of class. That’s pretty much all I’ve got for today. So until next time, peace and love…
