If I Should Die Tonight

If I should die tonight, would you miss me

Show up at my funeral in black, eyes misty

The list of folks that would come can’t be that long

But who knows, about this I could be wrong

On the other side, I’ve been an ass my whole life

Running off everyone from my friends to my wife

Feels like I’m at the end of my rope, with no hope

And things just ain’t looking up, now my time is up

The casket is closed, the service is over

With dirt, the grave is filling up

So here lies, me

A son, brother and friend to many

Not much to the world, so much more to a few

A hard man with a soft side very few folks knew

If I should die tonight, what would you call me

Would you look back on our time together and think of me fondly

I Woke Up This Morning

I woke up this morning, bitter and cold

My bones ached, my joints cracked, damn I felt old

Why did I wake up this morning?

I woke up this morning from the wildest of dreams

A fairytale land where nothing was as it seemed

That’s why I woke up this morning

I woke up this morning to an unfamiliar life

Minus all my possessions but chock full of strife

That’s why I hate some mornings

I woke up this morning and you weren’t there

The spot where you should be has long sine been bare

I’m so mad I woke up this morning

I woke up this morning and quickly gathered myself

Collected my thoughts, grabbed my notebook from the shelf

I write my best stuff in the morning

I woke up this morning, God knows I didn’t want to

With so much stacked against me, I don’t know what I’m gonna do

But I woke up this morning

I Used to Love H.E.R.

How many people have ever found true love

The kind you feel is from the heavens above

I found true love and I let it slip away

That mistake haunts me to this very day

Her vibe was sweeter than amaretto

Shit, I fell head over heels for her

But I was too scared to ever let her know

Then one day we were laying in bed

She looked me in the eye and this is what she said

“It’s all because of you I’m no longer feeling blue”

“You came my way and now life is filled with sunny days”

“I love you so, how much you’ll never know”

“Don’t ever take your love from me”

And I swore that I wouldn’t

As time went on, our love remained strong

Her heart sand my soul’s song

That made me write her a love poem

But eventually, I lost my lover and a friend

Because all good things come to an end

So here I stand, a single sexy man

Walking ‘round like I don’t give a damn

Plenty of women have come and gone

But to none I wanna hold on

Most prefer to ever to me as a whore

Because love don’t lie here anymore

Then again, I think I still love her

I Love You

I love you

There I said it

Thinking about how I love you makes me feel like Shakespeare

Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways

I love you like a tight verse loves a sick beat

I love you in pieces of my heart and soul that I didn’t know existed before

I love you in ways and for reasons I can’t fully express in words

And I’m a writer!

You run through my thoughts like they’re marathons

I love you on any day that ends with a Y

Loving you gives me wings but puts a pain in my heart

So I don’t know if I’m flying or dying

Maybe I’m doing a little but of both

Because without this love I feel like I’m heading for the grave

I love you like I love you, that’s all that should matter

Yeah, I love you

There, I said it

But now that I said it, what do we do next?

I Am a Poet!

(Part 1)

I am a poet!

I’m the last frontier for freedom of expression

I’m like the North Star, giving lost souls a sense of direction

I am a poet!

I’m not here to save your soul from your wicked ways

I just rhyme words and have your neurons firing for 3 days

I am a poet!

This ain’t a hobby, its more like a way of life

Without it, I’d fall on my own sword, take my own life

I am a poet!

Whoever said a poet couldn’t have tremendous swag

I walk around with comp notebooks inside my Gucci bag!

(Part 2)

I am a poet!

My weapon of choice is my mouth or a pen

Step up and I’ll bring your life to a swift end

I am a poet!

I don’t do this here for glory or fame

But to show the world that we’re not the same

I am a poet!

Your vocabulary can’t compare to my vernacular

Everyday, I thank God for a gift so spectacular

I am a poet!

A poet is what a poet does

I rhyme words and do it just because

I am a poet!

(Part 3)

I am a poet!

I’m the new age version of the old school storyteller

I paint pictures with a pen like Norman Mailer

I am a poet!

Lyrical expression is my life, you treat it like a hobby

That’s why my talent’s on the top floor, yours is in the lobby

I am a poet!

My spirit is a part of this, that’s why I get spiritual

But I get my hymns from Him, so it’s not me but He that’s lyrical

I’m not a miracle, I’m a Heaven sent instrument because

I am a poet!

How

How can I care for you so much yet know you so little

I wanna go all the way, will you meet me in the middle

How do we blend our two lives into just one

And continue to grow like a plant towards the sun

How d I say “I love you” without sounding obsessed

How do I say “I miss you” without sounding depressed

How can I not sound like a crazy bum

When I say I’ve had dreams of you having my son

How can the love we have stay on my mind

When we seem to fight all the time

How do I preserve us without sacrificing me

How can we stay together when you wanna be free

How doe this work, us fighting and loving

You wanting to leave, I want a bun in the oven

So how do we move on from here

You’re killing me softly and I’m all out of tears

History

History is my story, my story is our story

Not from New York, but I’m a Yankee like Joe Torre

You see, history is written by the one that won

And ain’t it funny it all involves a white man and a gun

Or a white man and some form of mass destruction and vast corruption

Whatever happened to the ones that did the suffering

And that my friends is our story

History is my story, my story is our story

I need to know my past and y’all will not ignore me

I’m the descendant of Indian chiefs and West African kings

And I’m deserving of all the respect holding those positions brings

But instead I’m harassed and treated like a second class citizen

And that my friend is how the story goes

History is my story, my story is our story

We’re the seeds of God, all this violence is real boring

Dr. King had a dream that we could live together, no matter creed or color

But the dream became the living nightmare of us warring with one another

Why does color matter, we’re all the same on the inside

We were born the same way, bleed the same color, and in the end we’re all gonna die

But the difference is the legacy we leave behind

And that is the true meaning of history

Have You Been Tested?

Say what nigga, you want me to suck your dick

You to late this time, that last dude was my last trick

I want to be pretty like them other chicks

I been pimped, played and pushed and now I’m regretting it

What you want with a bitch like me anyway, I ain’t nothing you see

I’m just out here trying to get my fuck on and get back on my luck

You may be my dream man and take care of me

I was taken away from my mama at the age of three

You see she and her mama’s mama’s mama’s mama was just like me

All thrown away by this racist society

Look at me and tell me what do you see

An old dried up trick trying to get that bread from you

Tell me what you see daddy

Do you see your mama, your daughter or perhaps your auntie

Well I am her now what you gonna do

Just bend me over and get this pussy until I’m through

Because that’s all you want anyway

Not some strong black queen with nigga dreams of bused cracked up seems

I’m gone suck you good so you don’t misunderstood my motives and my attentions

Now that we done I hope it was fun, but you just wait and see

I don’t mean to sound blunt, but yo I got HIV

Four Letters, One Emotion

Four letters, one emotion, infinite power

Power to make mountains out of mole hills, make heroes out of cowards

They say Red Bull gives you wings but I tend to disagree

If you have love in your life, you’ll truly be set free

We pay homage to bullshit, perpetrate like it matters

But when you recognize what’s real, all illusions will shatter

This doesn’t solely to infatuation, but love of any type

Like the love one has for their family or how I love to write

Four letters, one emotion, the strongest of them all

Can bring a giant to his knees, make the strongest man fall

Love’s a four letter word like shit and fuck

But its the driving force in our lives, far ahead of luck

Because life can be empty without that four letter word

It’s absence can make you drop like a stone, it’s presence can make you fly like a bird

F*** You

You know what, f*** you

F*** you from the bottom of my heart

F*** you sideways, backwards and upside down

F*** you, f*** your couch, f*** your life

F*** your feelings, f*** your opinion, f*** your authority

F*** you and that bulls*** you be talking

F*** you, you half-dead motherf***er

You think you know but f*** you, you have no idea

I’m like rubber, you’e like glue, whatever you say bounces off me so f*** you

F*** you, f*** you and f*** you, who’s next

I don’t know what the f*** you talking about so f*** you

Every time I see you, all I wanna say is “F*** you”

I feel like fireballs should be coming out my hands when I scream, “F*** YOU!”

All I’m serving is f*** you with a side of kiss my a**

So f*** you, f*** you, f*** you, you’re cool and f*** you

I’m out
